Michael VIII Palaeologus, 1261-1282. Trachy (Bronze, 27 mm, 2.49 g, 6 h), Class I, Thessalonica. Half-length nimbate figure of Virgin Mary, orans; in field to left and right, MP - OV. Rev. Half-length figures of Michael VIII on the left, holding labarum in his right hand, and St. Demetrius on the right, nimbate, in military attire and holding spear in his left hand; both holding between them patriarchal cross; above, star in cloud. DOC 131. SB 2310. Rare. Minor areas of weakness, otherwise, about very fine.
